BTEC (Edexcel) Higher National Certificate (HNC)

Entry requirements:
This course is for students 19 years old and over.

You will need a computing qualification at level 3 or equivalent experience (e.g. Vocational A level ICT, Business or Science, A++/MCSE/CISCO Certification, BTEC National qualification). Mature applicants with relevant industrial experience will also be considered.

Course content:

This intensive one year course is designed for those who wish to update their knowledge and skills or change careers in preparation for employment positions as Computing specialists. It offers a broad base of skills for working with computers in a commercial and/or technical environment.

Course Structure:

The course consists of ten individual units of study, taught over two semesters. Each specialist unit is led by a tutor with expertise in that area. Nine units are taught and the tenth is an individual project completed by the student.

Course resources:

The college provides a full range of computing facilities. All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.

Assessment:

There are a range of assessment methods, including assignments, project work, and at least one asseement which evaluates the students skills outside the formal examination setting.

Next step:
A degree (usually starting in the second year), or into work. A student with an HNC in Computing would be suited for work in Application Programming, Systems Analysis or Computer Support.
