How to Apply
16-18s
We want to make getting a place on one of our college courses as easy as possible. We have a dedicated Admissions Team who are able to help with any queries that you may have. You can contact them on 020 8918 7777 or e-mail admissions@south-thames.ac.uk.
Below is a guide to what happens at each stage. Don't worry if it looks long, we manage anything complicated and we'll always let you know what you need to do next.
1. Attend a College Open Day or Open Admissions Evening
Throughout the year the College holds Open Days and Open Admissions evenings. These events provide the ideal opportunity for you to hear about the benefits of studying at the College, see the College's facilities and to meet with the subject teaching staff who will be able to give you more information about our courses. If you are not sure what you would like to study then you can discuss the options with one of our Education Advisers.
2. Apply for a course
Complete a 2013-2014 Application for Interview Form [PDF] and then either drop it into one of the College centres, post it to the College using our FREEPOST address or apply directly on line via our website (to do this you need to find the course you are interested and follow the links).
If you would like any help completing your application form or require it in a different format, please contact the Admissions Team. A member of the team will be able to talk you through the process or ensure you are sent it the application form in the correct format. We aim to acknowledge all applications within 5 working days. If you apply online, you will receive an automated acknowledgement.
3. Come for an interview
We will write to you again within 21 days to invite you for an interview at the College. We will send to you details of your interview, a map showing how to find us, a list of questions you may like to ask at your interview and various information on support and facilities that are available to you at the College. We also include a reference form for you to get completed by your current tutor.
The Admissions Team will also send you a text message, if you have provided us with your mobile phone number, to remind you of your interview and may also telephone you up to 48 hours prior to the interview to confirm your attendance. If the date or time of your interview is not convenient, please contact the Admissions Team to arrange a more suitable time.
You may wish to bring your parents/guardian with to the interview as it is your opportunity to find out more about the College, its facilities and further details about the courses you wish to study
During the interview stage you may also be asked to complete a short numeracy or literacy assessment and for some subjects, an audition. These are all undertaken to ensure you are offered a place on the most appropriate course and that you receive all the right support to help you succeed.
4. Receive an offer for your place on a course
The tutor will confirm with you at your interview if you have been offered a place on the course of your choice. If we offer you a place on a course, it may be conditional on you meeting certain entry qualifications. If, for any reason, we are unable to offer you a place on your chosen course we will either offer you an appropriate alternative or give you the opportunity to meet with an Education Adviser to help you look at other options.
5. Accept your place on a course
The Admissions Team will write to you within 10 working days of your interview to confirm the offer that has made to you. You will be sent an Acceptance card alongside your confirmation of offer. Please return the Acceptance card to the Admissions Team to secure your place on the course.
6. Get your ID and become a South Thames College student (also known as Enrolment)
If you were given an unconditional offer you will be invited into the College during June or July to complete your enrolment and obtain your student ID card. If you were given a conditional offer (usually dependant on your exams results) you will be invited to the College to complete your enrolment at the end of August.
At this time you will also receive details of your first day at College.
7. Welcome to South Thames College
Induction week happens in September, in which you will be able to meet your tutors, familiarise yourself with the College and start getting to know your fellow students.
We look forward to welcoming you to South Thames College
