Your ticket to a successful future

Travel and tourism is an exciting subject to study and good preparation for a career with numerous opportunities. The industry employs millions of people all round the world but you don’t have to go far to find fantastic opportunities: London is the world’s second most popular tourist destination and two of the world’s top ten airports are located nearby.

At South Thames College in Merton, our courses give you a strong understanding of world travel. But we also focus on skills that will help you in a  range of other careers – for example, marketing, customer service and administration.

Students get to experience the industry first-hand through visits to tourist destinations and have the chance to take industry-specific qualifications as part of their course – for example in Fares and Ticketing and Galileo.
If you are interested in travel and can see yourself in a role focusing
on customer service then these courses will be good for you. You
will open up many opportunities in the industry and also be well
equipped to go on to work in any kind of customer service role in
business.

Careers include...

holiday reps, airport staff, tour managers, travel agents, visitor attraction hosts, customs officials, corporate travel managers, cabin crew and many more.

An established centre for Travel and Tourism courses
South Thames College and Merton College merged in 2009 with Merton College becoming the new institution's Merton Campus.

Travel and tourism has been taught here for many years with hundreds of former students going on to careers and university courses in this exciting and broad-ranging area.
