Entry requirements:
This course is for students 19 years old and over. Evidence of a level 1 in Art & Design which may include: A BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art & Design and a relevant portfolio of Art/Design work which can be a sample of sketchbooks, samples of art and or design work or examples of relevant work experience
A minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade D or above in relevant subjects, or equivalent qualifications and a relevant portfolio of Art/Design work which can be a sample of sketchbooks, samples of art and or design work or examples of relevant work experience or a related level 1 qualification or related work experience.
A commitment to complete the course.

During the course induction we will assess your existing Maths and English skills so that we can plan your course of study with you and give you any necessary additional support you may require to successfully complete the course. The learning support team will provide you with information about your individual needs. At interview all applicants are encouraged to complete the learner support enquiry form to begin the support process. An interest in art, design, architecture, fashion trends, retail and the history of the arts and crafts
The time to study a minimum of 1 day a week in addition to the timetables course hours

If accepted on the course, you will complete the enrolment process and pay for the course which confirms your place on the course.
Please bring the following to your interview: A portfolio of work which will include sketchbooks drawings and samples of art and or design work, and a pen. If you do not have any of the above, the interview panel will give you a task to bring with you to the interview
Course content:
This is a specialist Interior Design programme which will provide students with art and design skills, teaching new techniques and processes central to the design processes and providing the opportunity to gain vocational experience necessary to join the highly competitive Creative Industries.
The course will include project based tasks which will enable you to produce a series of designs for interior design briefs for the home, for events and shows and for theatrical sets and interiors. You will learn how to survey a room, plan space safely, produce plans and elevations, do technical drawings, produce rough sketches of interior spaces as well as developing research and observational drawing skills which will inform the creative process. They will also study design styles within cultural contexts and prepare a portfolio of work for assessment and progression to further study.
Course Structure:
Full time day (part time for those in receipt of DSS benefits and needing to satisfy the conditions of availability for work for Flexi Job Centre plus)
3 days a week, Wednesday to Friday, for one academic year (36 weeks) starting on 8th September 2010 at 10am.
Whole group demonstrations, practical individual and group exercises, whole class peer presentations, group and paired discussions. Smart-board presentations and exercises.

. You will produce an individual learning plan which will be monitored during tutorials where you and your personal tutor will monitor your individual progress and plan your personal performance targets. At the end of the year you will display your work in the Creative Industries Art and Design Exhibition to celebrate your achievements.
Course resources:
Course materials will be available once you have registered for the course via the intranet. All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.
Assessment:
The course in unit based and assessment will take place regularly throughout the course at the end of each project. You will receive a year planner which will show you the assessment dates for the year. You will receive individual and group assessments.

Fees Info
The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 once per academic year.
Materials costs:
You will need to spend a minimum of £50 a term on materials, visits and groups events.
