You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions and add, subtract, multiply and divide.
You should be able to use a keyboard and mouse and understand the principles of file management.
- Course content:
- You will be introduced to Excel, Microsoft's spreadsheet software, and given a general overview of the concepts, terms and functions of spreadsheets.
By the end of the course you will be able to:-
Create worksheets in Excel.
Perform calculations using formulae and functions.
Convert numerical data into charts/graphs and make changes to them.
Use worksheets and spreadsheets.
Enhance the appearance of worksheets using formatting.
- Course Structure:
- You will have the use of your own computer to practice and learn + online facilities. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations will be given. You will then try it for yourself with help from the tutor and each other. You will also get written instructions, handouts and exercises to do.
- Course resources:
- All students have access to computer centres. This includes free internet access.
- Assessment:
- Observation of tasks by tutor, checking of task printouts, question and answer. Exercises according to level. Self Assessment through Progress Records

- When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.
