- This course is for students 19 years old and over.
Students will need a GCSE in English, at grade C or above, or the ILEX Legal Secretarial level 2, as well as the ability to type proficiently at around 30-40 words per minute. There will be an initial assessment in written English skills.
This course is only available to applicants over the age of 19.
- Course content:
This course provides a route to practice management in a legal office.
After experience in the office, the qualification allows for leadership of a team of secretaries and administrators. Students will study:
- advanced legal text processing
- advanced audio legal text processing
- advanced legal administration
- law
- legal communications
- client care
- proofreading
Students learn by completing assignments, compiling a portfolio and an external proofreading test. In addition, the course will provide every opportunity to further develop interpersonal and IT skills to enable students to communicate effectively at work. These skills are additionally certificated by gaining the OCR Text Processing (Business Professional) level 3 award.
- Course Structure:
When experience in an office has been gained, the qualification can lead to a role at practice manager level, which is management of a team of secretaries and administrators. A legal secretary may find employment in a law firm or there are many other positions available, such as in local council offices, financial firms and estate agencies.
