Entry requirements:
This course is for school leavers aged 16-18 years. Good Literacy and Numeracy skills an advantage.
An interview, online diagnostic assessment, a dexterity test to assess your suitability to the course we are offering and 2 references (from school or employer).
Course content:
Do you have the drive, vision and a huge passion for hairdressing and beauty? This foundation course is essential for all potential beauty therapists and hairdressers, as it provides a strong basis in which to develop other skills at a higher level in these industries.
This course gives an introduction to the Beauty and Hairdressing Industry. This course contains units that are mandatory and are required to be completed in full:
Health and safety;
Contribute to the development of an effective working relationship;
Preparing for hairdressing service and maintaining the work area;
Prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas;
Beauty Elements are:
Assist with facial skin care treatments;
Assist with nail service;
Hairdressing Elements are:
Shampooing and conditioning various hair types;
Assist with hair colouring services;
Blow dry hair;
Salon reception.

This course will provide students with introductoyr vocational skills and knowledge to become a trainee in the hairdressing industry and to progress to level 2 in Beauty. You will be taught essential knowledge, skills and understanding of how to perform beauty and hairdressing tasks on paying clients. Practical lessons will take place in a fully equipped salon where the students will have the opportunity to develop their hairdressing and beauty skills. Theory classes perofare the students for the tests and assignments they have to complete as part of the course requirements.
Course Structure:


Input, Tutorials (ILP) Individual Learning Plans and portfolio building, workshops, work experience weeks, working alongside Level 2 & 3 in a commercial salon, you may be required to attend one late evening per week.

Excellent salon training environment; access to the latest technology, web site support for students within the college and at home; the latest products in the market are used at the college
Assessment:
Continuous assessment by observation of practical skills when you work on clients and GOAL testing, there may be some written assignments.

Fees Info
The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 once per academic year.
