Intermediate level students will benefit from having prior knowledge of how to use a camera and most of its controls at a competent level.
- Course content:
- A course in photography for film and digital camera users at both intermediate level. To cover all camera controls and to take well exposed and composed photographs. To produce black and white prints in the darkroom. To introduce Adobe Photoshop and its role in photography. To have one weekend day session in central London.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
1) Identify and explain the use of your camera’s features.
2) Use all of your camera’s exposure controls to produce well exposed photographs.
3) Use a variety of lighting techniques
4) Understand how useful Adobe Photoshop (digital imaging software) is to a photographer.
5) Process black and white negatives in the dark room prints in the darkroom.
- Course Structure:
1) Camera controls.
2) Film, memory cards and accessories.
3) Camera exposure controls (shutter speeds, apertures, ISO film speeds and EV exposure compensation).
4) Studio, flash and natural lighting.
5) Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
6) Set photography projects to be carried out in students’ own time.
7) One weekend day session in central London towards the end of the course.
8) Students will be set more advanced photographic and darkroom printing tasks.
- Course resources:
- Photographic lighting and darkroom (black and white).
Students are required to bring their own camera, rolls of colour and black and white film and / or memory cards.
- Assessment:
- Group and one to one tuition. Constructive advice and problem solving of students’ own work.

- Using Adobe Photoshop Elements course. The tutor will be happy to discuss the content of these courses.

- When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.
- Materials costs:
- To be discussed by the tutor in the first lesson for darkroom photographic paper.
Students are required to supply their own film and / or memory cards.
