Sophy Robson, Beauty Therapy
Sophy studied at South Thames College in the year 2000. She is now a successful Nail Technician and owns her own salon on the King’s Road in Chelsea.
Sophy found out about South Thames College because she lived locally. She initially became interested in Nail Art after a lecturer came in the College to promote a short nail course. Sophy said that in the year 2000 there weren’t many nail salons around and nails weren’t as popular as they are now. She started to experiment with nail art and designing her own styles, going on to join a full-time beauty therapy course at South Thames College, whilst working in a salon in her spare time.
Sophy has now been awarded an NVQ Level 1 and 2 in Beauty Therapy and an NVQ Level 3 in Nail Extensions.
Sophy has achieved enormous success since leaving South Thames College. She has since appeared on The One Show discussing what she looks for in employees at her salon saying the first thing she asks candidates is whether they have a relevant NVQ.
Sophy became self-employed in 2001 and has built up an impressive bank of clients even designing nails for Kylie Minogue. She has worked on the 2012 London Fashion Week and said this was a good way for her to network and promote her business.
Sophy advised people wishing to get into the industry to complete their formal qualifications which act as a good starting point to a career.
