South Thames College provides opportunities for progression into work or university level study that are a real alternative to the traditional school sixth form route.

We are a very popular College, so, in order to avoid disappointment, it is essential that young people apply as early as December or January for the following academic year.

Students aged 16-18 who enrol on courses at this College will be based at either our Merton or Wandsworth centres.  Each centre is set up to run specific courses and qualifications and each has its own community of students and teachers.  They both have excellent Learning Resource Centres.  Each student is allocated a personal tutor who has a special responsibility for checking their progress and is available to discuss any difficulties with their studies.

You can find details on all our courses for 16 - 18 year olds under each subject area.

Induction at the Centre

Induction takes place during the first weeks of term.  During this time, tutors outline to their students the importance of attending regularly and of arriving at classes on time.  We are very keen to ensure that good study habits are maintained from the start.

At South Thames College we place great emphasis on enabling students to fulfill their potential. Tutors and subject teachers will set young people targets related to their work. These targets will be challenging, but achievable. We believe in doing everything possible to support our students to succeed in their qualifications, but this is a two-way process. It depends on each student working hard too.

Learners will also find out about the social aspects of life at College and opportunities outside the classroom - trips, clubs, voluntary work and much more.

Finding out about students' progress

We will give you regular progress reports and invitations to meet tutors at parents' evenings. We will write to you directly with the dates of these events.
