Counselling

What is Counselling?

Attending a counselling session is very different to seeing someone for advice. Most people attend counselling to focus on problems or issues related to their personal lives. The counsellor will offer you support and understanding in a confidential and non-judgemental environment.

The counselling relationship will enable you to focus on and work through issues in your life that might be troubling you. Students have found that having a supportive environment to talk through personal problems has increased their ability to focus on their studies and improved their chances of succeeding on their course

Some of the problems you may face are:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Family/relationship problems
  • Issues around self-esteem/self confidence
  • Bereavement
  • Abuse
  • Sexuality
  • Any emotional issue

In addition, many students come to us with concerns around college related matters or situations where they have to make difficult decisions in life. Whatever your siutation we will do our best to support you and help you complete your course successfully.

It is important to point out that the decision to attend counselling is entirely your own, not your tutors, parents or other students.

These services are provided for currently enrolled South Thames students. If you want to talk to someone please ask in the Advice Centre or reception at your campus.
