What is Vocational Training?
Vocational training prepares learners for jobs that are based in manual or practical activities, traditionally non-academic and related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation. It covers a wide range of subject areas and tends to be more hands on than academic qualifications might be.
Our world is changing fast, and we all need more skills than ever before. 2 out of 3 jobs in the future will require a higher level of skills and better qualifications.
The good news is that we're all natural learners - use this site to explore how you can learn skills that will help you take control of your future.
South Thames College offers an exciting range of work-related subjects that will help you to develop the skills and experience necessary to build a career. You can work towards qualifications that lead straight into employment or on to university-level education and qualifications.
Our courses are designed with your future employability in mind. We work closely with industry partners across all areas of the curriculum and have a great track-record for teaching students the practical skills they need to succeed in the world of work.
Learning really comes to life at South Thames with interesting and creative timetables that include work placements, visits to businesses and group discussions.
We have excellent facilities in all subject areas and are investing £100m to improve these and ensure you get the learning environment you deserve. These include fully operational construction workshops, hair and beauty salons, professional TV, film and radio studios, industry standard music technology suites and recording studios, a newly equipped drama studio, sports halls and a fitness studio. "I particularly like the team-building activities on the course, we go out in a group to Richmond Park and do field orientation skills. I’m also working towards a fitness instructor course whilst working part time at Virgin Active Fitness Club. When I finish my courses I hope to continue working at Virgin as a Fitness Instructor. In my spare time I’m learning how to be a kick boxer."
