Care Ambassadors

In partnership with Skills for Care, South Thames College runs a Care Ambassadors Scheme. There are 35 Care Ambassadors Schemes in existing across 9 regions nationally and the scheme is recommended as a priority action in the Government's "Options for Excellence" review of the social care workforce.

Aims
The aim of the Care Ambassador scheme is to promote good practise in health and social care, promote social care as an exciting career option, demonstrate the range of benefits available in the sector and showcase the variety of jobs and careers available.

Care ambassadors do this by visiting schools, colleges, recruitment and careers events, residential and day care centres and other groups of people to share with them their own experiences of working in social care roles. This may involve:

  • Delivering presentations about careers in care
  • Running workshops to share good practice and raise standards in the profession.
  • Talking to people individually about the realities of working in social care.

Why is this necessary?
For a variety of reasons, social care is having a difficult time attracting new staff at the moment and staff vacancies rates are higher in social care than in any other sector in England. There is an opportunity, especially in the current economic climate, to address this by educating people about the reality of social care andhow it can be a rewarding and meaningful career path while at the same time promoting good practise within the sector.

If you would like a Care Ambassador to visit your group please contact: Lisa Carter on 020 8918 7268
