This course offers technical training in accounting and teaches you specialist knowledge and skills to progress to a further qualification in accountancy or a related field. At this level you'll master more complex financial processes including financial accounts for sole traders and partnerships, VAT administration and professional ethics.
The name of the course, as it appears on your qualification or certificate, will be Diploma in Accounting - Level 3
You'll be assessed throughout the year through computer-based assessments and projects.
You should be 19 or over at the start of this course with:
- GCSE English and maths grade A*-C or Level 2 Functional Skills; AND
- AAT Level 2 Certificate; OR
- City & Guilds Bookkeeping and Accounts Level 2 with a first class pass; OR
- Other relevant qualifications may be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed during your interview.
For international students, you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in each section) or equivalent. Find out more in the international pages.
You'll need to join the AAT to take the AAT exams. AAT membership has plenty of benefits including access to essential accounting resources on career development, technical training, network meetings and a quarterly journal. For current membership and exam prices, please check the AAT website or speak to your tutor. There are a selection of books youll need for your studies. You can buy these from the college at a discounted rate. Your tutor will confirm costs with you when you start the course.
You could apply for jobs as an accounts assistant in any organisation. You could progress further in your career and continue to the AAT Level 4 at South Thames College or go on to university to study a degree in accounting and/or finance.
