To help you be a better artist, you'll study a variety of techniques and processes helping you focus on more advanced subjects as you progress through the levels. The course is a great introduction to art, design and media and will help build your skills ready for future study or work. During the course you'll have the chance to create your own animation, organise your own photo-shoot and design your own accessories.
You must complete all set projects before completing a self-directed end of year final project. Units include:
- A project in 2D or 3D
- Drawing and painting
- English and maths.
The name of the course, as it appears on your qualification or certificate, will be Diploma in Art and Design - Level 1
Continuous assessment and coursework, including exhibitions.
Three GCSEs A*-G / 9-1 including English or maths; OR other related qualifications and experience.
You'll also need to show some art and design work at interview - which could include sketchbooks, drawings, etc. If you don't have examples of your previous work, we may ask you to complete some practical tasks as part of your interview to make sure the course is a good match for you.
You'll buy an art kit and this provides a variety of resources worth more than the cost - payment is assessed on your circumstances.
You can progress to our Level 2 course in art and design.
