Introduction To Accounting And Finance

This course will introduce you to basic accounting principles, practices and terminology. It is for anyone who is interested in an introduction to small business accountancy, at any age. You must be willing to put in time and effort on homework outside of the course.

  • Entry Requirements


    English Entry 3 or above and a willingness to do some maths (with support from tutor)

    Use this course to set up and begin to run your own business or move onto an accountancy or bookkeeping qualification course at South Thames College.

    By the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Book-keeping and accounting definitions
    • The accounting equation
    • Double entry principles
    • Prepare a simple Balance Sheet
    • Prepare simple accounts to record business transactions involving:
    • Capital
    • Assets and Liabilities
    • Stock
    • Revenue and Expenses

    Course Structure - Weekly classes face to face covering of different aspects of accountancy using practical examples. You will need to attend every week and be prepared to do some work outside class to get the most from this course.
