Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship - Level 5

The Learning and Skills Teacher L5 Apprenticeship is for people who teach currently or who are seeking to teach in the Further Education and Skills Sector, usually in settings where students are aged 16 and above. Learning and Skills Teachers are professionals who want to draw on their technical, vocational and academic experience and qualifications to provide a high-quality learning experience.

The apprenticeship offers a more vocational and practical route into teaching, whilst offering the core academic content you would expect from a teacher training qualification.

  • Entry Requirements


    Learners must have lived and worked in the UK for 3 years

    L2 Functional Skills/GCSE English and Maths

    We will consider a minimum L1/ English and Maths to enrol but you must complete L2 Functional Skills English and Maths before End Point Assessment (EPA)

    L3 in Vocational Subject or significant experience in the industry

  • Course Content


    The apprenticeship will develop your skills in the planning and delivery of teaching that is current, comprehensive and challenging, and that inspires students to engage, progress and achieve their full potential. It will train you to deliver vocational and study programmes to a diverse group of students, including those with special educational needs. A Learning and Skills Teacher needs to be flexible, innovative, and adaptable, changing their behaviour and teaching style to suit the environment and level of their students. This apprenticeship will enable you to develop your professional practice alongside your current teaching commitments, giving you current and relevant on-the-job training. Key Course Content -

  • Progression Next Steps


    Students on this course should expect to progress to a variety of qualified teacher roles in the Further Education and Skills Sector. Once qualified they may become subject leaders, curriculum managers and in time progress into education management.

  • Course Structure


    12 Months - On Programme

    • 80% on the job and 20% off the job training Off the Job training will include -
    • Attendance once a week for pedagogical input from a qualified teacher trainer
    • Support to produce your portfolio for End Point Assessment
    • Assignments and Reflections to enable your professional development
  • Assessment Details


    Teacher Apprentices will produce a range of assessment activities to evidence their achievement of the Apprenticeship Standards, to include;

    • Teaching observation and feedback
    • Peer observation of fellow professionals
    • Reflective accounts
    • Written assignments and case studies

    To prepare for your End Point Assessment (EPA)

    • Production of a professional portfolio for you EPA
    • Preparation for your EPA Assessment which will include a one hour teaching observation and a discussion around the apprenticeship knowledge, skills and behaviours with an external End Point Assessor.
