The courses here are great, especially Art & Design, it gave me the opportunity to explore a few different paths, it was only when I started the course that I realised the amount of career options doing Art & Design could lead to. I wouldn’t have considered a career in Art & Design as an option until I studied it. I gained a real interest in programming and being technical in art rather than just photography or illustration, if it wasn’t for being exposed to different types of art & design that wouldn’t have come up. My advice is to be open to what the course throws at you because you are not going to know what is going to spark interest until you actually try it out and give it your all."

Dre Wells

South Thames College is delighted to announce that former learner, Dre Wells, has now been promoted to the Operations Manager role with the Southfields franchise of Little Kickers.

Dre originally began with Little Kickers on an Industrial Work Placement in 2019, alongside his NCFE Level 3 Sport course, before gaining first part-time work with them, and then progressing to a full-time role after he completed his College course in the summer of 2020.

On being appointed to his promotion, Dre said: “I was a student at South Thames College for 3 years studying Sport and Physical Activity. In my 2nd year I was offered work experience at Little Kickers, and from this I would carry on to work my way up and enjoy every minute of it. By the time I finished my 3rd year at the College, I became the Operations Manager at my franchise. It has been a great experience.”

Dawn Davis, who was Dre’s Course Leader whilst at College said: “This is fantastic news, it is indeed a huge success story, especially so because Dre came onto our level 2 Sport programme and was incredibly shy, had no real knowledge of Sport, and didn't particularly enjoy studying. His confidence accelerated when he first undertook work experience with Little Kickers, and it was thought he has become a different person (bags of personality and full of confidence). It was awesome to behold. It has been wonderful that Dre progressed from level 2, to level 3 Yr 1 and level 3 Yr 2, and now into a good job. I am super proud of all that he has achieved.”

A huge thank you to all of the team at Little Kickers for their continued support, and Work Placement opportunities provided.
