James is the Deputy Head of School for Creative Industries at South Thames College Wandsworth, managing the vibrant creative department that mainly provides full time accredited courses for a variety of learners. James has a BA in Fine Art from Leeds Metropolitan University and an MFA (Masters in Fine Art) from Wimbledon College of Art. James has over 20 years of teaching experience in FE, teaching from levels 1-6 and specialises in drawing, painting and printmaking, in particular very traditional processes and methods of creating work.
He has recently been awarded Advanced Teacher Status and is conferred into the Chartered College of Teaching. Alongside lecturing, James is an independent gallery represented artist and he has also worked in a variety of roles within the industry including galleries, studios and art groups/collectives. James regularly exhibits along with active participation in various groups and projects such as the ‘Free Painters and Sculptors’ group, for example.
James has also appeared in publications, national press, worked on commissions and his work is in private collections nationally and internationally. James has exhibited in a variety of local, national and international galleries and exhibition spaces such as, The Menier Gallery, The Bargehouse, Mall Galleries and SOMarts (San Francisco). He continues to further his practice with historical methods and materials research along with drawing as the main focus areas in current projects.
