Our craft courses will teach you a range of creative skills you can use to start a small business making and selling your own unique products. They're also a great way to improve your dexterity, meet new people and develop an interest.
Explore carving and sculpture using different materials of your choice and varieties of wood and stone. You'll also cover aspects of metal artwork and the setting and embedding of semi-precious stones.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
Select appropriate materials and finishes
Design a carving project of your choice
- Use a selection of hand tools safely.
Your teacher will give you feedback and advice. You'll work with your classmates to evaluate each other's work. You'll also complete an individual learning plan.
This is a practical, hands-on course in a workshop. You don't need any previous experience, but you'll be required to use hand tools for some parts of the course.
There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).
Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.
Continue to develop skills by enrolling for the next term or attend one of our start a small business courses, in order to sell your creations.
