This exciting, practical course will give you an overview of the fashion industry and prepare you for university-level study. You'll learn about fashion as a discipline and gain the study skills you need to progress to a higher level course. If you complete the course successfully, you can take advantage of our progression partnership with London College of Fashion.
You'll learn how fashion changes, how the new season's range is put together and what inspires the designers. How trends are influenced and shared has changed hugely with blogging and Instagram and this course will help you understand the different sides of the industry. You'll learn how fashion works from first inspiration to creating a must-have item.
This is the only Access to Fashion course in South West London whilst also being only 12 minutes to the fashion hub that is central London and less than 30 minutes from the London College of Fashion.
Assessments take place throughout the course with essays, assignments, presentations, tests and exams. Your work will be assessed internally and reviewed with the London College of Fashion tutors and you will receive feedback on how to present your work portfolio.
To gain the Access Diploma you'll need to achieve 60 credits with a minimum of 45 at Level 3.
You should be 19 or over at the start of this course.
This course will prepare you for study at university-level, but you should check the entry requirements for the universities you are interested in as well.
Most universities ask for GCSE English and maths grade A*-C / 9-4.
If you're missing one of these GCSEs at the required grade:
You will need to sit an assessment and depending on your results, you could study a GCSE course or a Level 2 Functional Skills course alongside Access. This option is intensive so you'll need to be committed to studying the extra hours.
If you're missing both GCSE English and maths A*-C / 9-4 or your assessment results show you're unlikely to get above grade D/3:
You'll need to take an English and/or maths Functional Skills or GCSE course before studying Access to develop your skills in this area.
In some cases we may consider equivalent international qualifications. Please ask our team about this when you come in for interview.
If you don't have GCSEs A*-C / 9-4, don't forget we have other options that might suit you. If you're employed our apprenticeships team can help you get qualified while you work, and we have plenty of courses to prepare you for further study or work. For advice, speak to our education advisers.
