Clothesmaking is a great skill to have if you're interested in working in fashion or going on to do a fashion course. This practical, introductory First Steps course is suitable for beginners and will teach you the basics of clothesmaking.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
- Thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker
- Choose appropriate fabrics
- Alter the length of a pair of trousers, skirt, dress and sleeves
- Make a dress into a top or skirt
- Make simple trousers or skirt
- Use a tailor's dummy
There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).
Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.
This course will provide you with the basic set of skills needed on a fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.
