Clothesmaking is a great skill to have if you're interested in working in fashion or going on to do a higher level fashion course. This practical introductory course is suitable for beginners and will teach you the basic professional techniques of clothesmaking.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
- Thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker.
- Choose appropriate fabrics
- Make a pair of drawstring or elastic waisted trousers or skirt.
- Use a tailors dummy
You'll be encouraged to make your garments look like one-off designs. There will be weekly demonstrations to introduce new skills.
You'll need to bring your own sewing box, patterns, fabrics, interlinings and linings. Your tutor will give you a list of exactly what you need to get in your first class. If you have no existing equipment, there may be a charge to cover this cost. There are sewing machines, overlockers, irons and metal rulers you can use at the College.
This course will provide you with a foundation of skills needed on a fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.
