Broaden your skills and let your creativity flow. In this course you'll learn how to make clothes to a high standard, including couture techniques to make your projects unique and exciting. These techniques will enable you to transform patterns to a style that suits you You'll use a sewing machine and pattern to make a simple garment or accessory.
You'll be introduced to essential sewing skills such as:
- How to thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker
- Taking accurate body measurements
- Understanding a pattern and choosing suitable fabric
- Laying, pinning and cutting out fabric
- Completing seams and hems

There are no entry requirements for this course.
You'll need to bring your own sewing box, patterns, fabrics, interlinings and linings. Your tutor will give you a list of exactly what you need to get in your first class. If you have no existing equipment, there may be a charge to cover this cost. There are sewing machines, overlockers, irons and metal rulers you can use at the College.
This course will provide you with a foundation of skills needed on a fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.
