Cake Decorating - Professional Skills - Beginner

Our cake decorating courses will teach you professional skills that will prepare you well to set up your own business or for progression to further study on our accredited cake decorating courses.

Introduction

Learn to create beautifully decorated cakes on this course. You'll discover a range of techniques for decorating different types of cake from cupcakes to larger, more challenging cakes. This includes learning how to select and use different types of equipment.

Examples of topics you may cover:

  • Preparing and coating cakes using icing and piping

  • Carving and shaping cakes

  • Using food colouring and glitter decorations

  • Making wired ornaments such as lettering, butterflies and flowers

  • Creating sugar-paste figures for novelty cakes.

Assessment

Your teacher will give you feedback and advice. You'll work with your classmates to evaluate each other's work. You'll also complete an individual learning plan.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to beginners, but will also help you if you have experience decorating cakes and want to try new techniques and develop your skills.

Materials

Your tutor will advise you on any materials you need to buy when you come in for your first class. This might include items like a rolling pin, sugar-paste and small items of equipment.
