Please note that this course is delivered face-to-face.
This course will build on your current knowledge and teach you more advanced skills in Microsoft Word, the internet and using your PC.
By the end of the course you'll be able to:
Install and run software applications
Change your PC settings
Defragment a hard drive
Password protect your PC and documents
Print envelopes and labels using MS Word
Create, edit and organise content in tables using MS Word
Edit MS Word documents and track changes
Customise your email settings
You'll complete individual practical tasks in class using a computer. There will be class discussions to help you understand and share ideas, and you'll do some work in pairs or small groups. There will be homework assignments.
You should have completed the beginner course or have confidence using a computer to perform basic tasks such as creating a document in MS Word, browsing the internet and checking your email.
There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).
Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.

There is a College registration fee of £30 but only if you are on a qualification course that is not 'full cost'. You don't pay it if you're 18 or younger or on Active Benefits.

If you're 19 or older at the start of this course and you've lived in the UK for 3 or more years, you could get a loan to help with your tuition fees. It's not means-tested, and you won't need to pay it back until you've finished your course and earn over £21,000 a year.
If you get an Advanced Learner Loan to study an Access course then go on to complete a HE course, your loan repayments will be wiped off.
The amount you'll receive depends on the course and tuition fees. The minimum is £300.
How to apply
You can apply for this loan once you've got a place on the course. After you've accepted your place we'll send you a learning and funding information letter which you need to complete your loan application. You can do this online on the gov.uk website.
