South Thames College

BA (Hons) Games Art - Level 6

This course is run in partnership with the University of Northampton.

Whilst most universities charge £9,000 for courses such as this, our programme which is actually a degree awarded by the University of Northampton is available for £6,000 per year.

Gain the 3D digital games art skills required in the games industry on this course. You'll build an understanding of pipelines used in game art: from concept to rigging characters and building 3D environments. You'll also experience game art for New Gen. consoles using 3D Studio Max 2016, Mudbox, Substance Painter, ZBrush and Unreal4.

The course covers three main stages of development:

  • First, you'll learn the fundamental skills needed to generate concept art ideas into 3D game assets of industry standard.
  • In the second stage you'll learn to create concepts and 3D game assets with advanced levels of detail and complexity.
  • In the final stage of your studies you'll use the skills you've gained to focus on a final project. You'll also prepare for work in the industry.

Throughout the course you'll be encouraged and supported to take part in competitions and practical live projects to strengthen your skills and real-world experience. Your practical studies will also be supported by industry talks and visits from experts.

Assessment is a mixture of studio-based design projects, group projects, portfolio development and written assignments.

Over the course you'll develop a personal portfolio that showcases your knowledge and skills. We'll help you build a collection of work that reflects professional best practice and industry needs.

All your work will be submitted digitally. There are six digital submissions a year.
