South Thames College

UAL Creative Media Production (Games Design) - Level 3

90 or 180 Credit Course

Achieve a 90-credit diploma in your first year of study then top up to 180 credits on the extended diploma in the second year. The extended diploma gives you much more detail on the subject — it's the same as three A-levels and is a great route into university. If you already have 90 credits from another college, you can choose to top up to the extended diploma with just one year of study.

Introduction

The UAL Level 3 in Games Design is an exciting and practical course, designed to give you the technical skills and critical thinking necessary to turn your original game ideas into fully realised 3D game environments. You will learn to create high quality 3D models, textures and animations, and use visual scripting ’Blueprints’ to make them interactive within your own playable game levels.

You will learn to be proficient in a wide range of high-end industry software including Adobe Photoshop, Unreal Engine and Autodesk Maya, and also learn about the videogame industry from its beginnings to the massive growth industry it has become.

The software taught is also used across other creative industries so completion of the Level 3 Games Design can lead to a variety of degree pathway options such as games design, games art, graphic design, digital media, motion graphics, computer animation, visual effects, architectural visualisation and product design.

Assessment

You'll be assessed by practical and written assignments, presentations and recorded work.
