Ideal if you're interested in learning sign language and have no previous experience or knowledge. You'll learn the basics of British Sign Language (BSL) and gain a recognised qualification.
BSL Stage 1, modules 1, 2 and 3 can be completed in any order. You'll be required to pass all three units to gain the full Stage 1 qualification. In BSL Stage 1, Module 2 you'll cover topics including:
You'll have the opportunity to practice conversation in class with peers, as well as with your tutor for feedback.
During the BSL Stage 1, Module 2 exam you'll have a four to five minute conversation with your tutor using a topic given to you, which will be recorded.
You must have completed BSL L1 module 1
There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).
Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.
You can progress on to the BSL Stage 1, Module 3 course at South Thames College to complete a full qualification.
