This course is for non-native (ESOL) students who want to develop their language skills in a specific context. The course will be framed around an activity or skill such as Volunteering, Reading with your child, Organising a charity fund raising event and Steps into Work.

The course will include elements of the following: • Develop your vocabulary and grammar • Improve your communication skills including discussion and debating skills. • Write posters, letters, leaflets, short stories • Learn how to make stories interesting • Start volunteering The level of the course will be decided at the initial assessment.


You will agree individual targets for your language development with your teacher at the start of the course

Entry Requirements

You will be given an initial assessment in your first class. This will include a piece of writing, a reading task and a speaking activity. If the level of the class is appropriate for you, you will be invited to join the group.


There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).

Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.
