This qualification is aimed at those wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer. It equips learners with specialist knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to the role of the personal trainer.
This qualification aims to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.
You will be studying a total of 7 units:
- Principles of exercise, fitness & health
- Health, safety & welfare in a fitness environment
- Know how to support clients who take part in exercise & physical activity
- Anatomy & physiology for exercise & health
- Programming personal training with clients
- Delivering personal training sessions
- Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
You will also need to undertake at least 36 hours work experience and you are responsible for finding your own work experience placement within the sports industry
You will be assessed through practical performance, learning assessment record (LAR), practical observations; externally set multiple choice exams; completion of workbooks/worksheets.
You must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing or equivalent. A positive reference from previous school/college that includes attendance, punctuality, behaviour and competence to work. You will also need to demonstrate that you practice at least one sport or that you fitness train.
You will need fitness gear to complete your practical work.
This qualification can lead to employment as a personal trainer and also provide progression to other qualifications at the same and higher levels.
