Brian Treadwell - Supporting Teaching and Learning
Brian Treadwell

"I completed an Introduction to Teaching Assistant course back in June 2014 as well as a Work Skills Level 1 qualification. I then decided to volunteer for MENCAP and, last summer, I was offered a place on the Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 course.

I now work 5 days a week as an after school club worker in a primary school and I plan to study for the Level 3 qualification in September 2018 and am very grateful to have been given a professional focus in life."

Yvonne Connolly - Upholstery
Yvonne Connolly

Having recently retired, Yvonne was looking for something different to do where she could also learn new skills in a completely different field to her career in the NHS.

“I really look forward to Wednesdays and find myself constantly on the lookout for the next project. Each piece has reminded me of skills I had forgotten and taught me some new ones too. I have never considered myself to be artistic so it has been immensely satisfying to find an outlet for my more creative side.”

Lorraine Hewitt - Employability

"I attended two employability courses that were delivered by Martina Collett. I wanted to explore different career options and needed help with my CV, where to look for job opportunities and interview skills.

I am now temping as a receptionist and working at Crystal Place Football Club in the season ticket holders bar. I am continuing to search and apply for permanent admin work and I have enrolled in a computer class starting in October. Thank you Martina and Merton Adult Education."

Peter Hardy - French Advanced Conversation

"I have attended this class for several years and my command of French has improved immeasurably. Not only can I understand spoken and written everyday French without prior recourse to translation but on visits to France native speakers have commented on my command and understanding of the language.

The classes are stimulating, challenging, interesting, exciting, combining traditional French values with modern developments. Using current educational methods, the tutors are able to clearly illustrate the issues to be studied."

Zara Breese - Pottery

You can progress at your own pace during the course, with plenty of encouragement to think outside of the box to explore ceramic forms and surfaces in a different way.  There is friendly peer support within the group where we share our technical skills and knowledge, and discuss contemporary and historical ceramics.

David Craig - Stained and Fused Glass
David Craig

With a growing dissatisfaction with work life, David Craig was looking for a course that would provide more fulfilment.

"Over the last year or so of courses I have started to have ambitions towards building a business around my glass making. I have discovered (with a shock) that I am artistic and creative and the fulfilment that I get through this unexpected personal development will, I am sure, stay with me for the rest of my life."

How to apply

The easiest way to apply is through our official STCL agents or representatives. They can help with visas and immigration too.

We add new agents and representatives often but you may also be able to use agents in nearby countries if there is no agent listed in your country yet.

If you are a national of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you can enter the UK and usually have a right of residence as a student.

If you are a national from outside of the EEA or Switzerland you will need a visa.

If you are living outside the UK

Look at UK Visas and Immigration (formerly UK Border Agency) to find out your visa requirements. Alternatively your nearest British Embassy should give you up to date information. Visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for Embassy contact details.

If you are already living in the UK

The rules can seem quite complicated so come and talk to Student Services – there is one on every campus - or email the International Office for help and advice.

Because South Thames College is a UK Visas and Immigration (formerly UK Border Agency) Highly Trusted Sponsor, we can issue a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies(CAS) for Tier 4 student visas and visa letters for student visitor visas.
