Cookery students get jammy

jamStrawberries and Wimbledon tennis go together – well like strawberries and cream – so when the tennis championships offered the College some of the leftover fruit from the world-famous competition we jumped at the offer. 

Freezing the strawberries, the Hospitality and Catering Academy then came up with a ‘jammy’ idea – on the second day of term, students new and old were put into teams of four and tasked with creating a strawberry jam and designing a label for their preserve.

All students took part in the event and the teams were made up of mixed abilities, so returning students who have honed their skills over two years, worked side-by-side with those enjoying the second day of their course.

The jams were judged by Wimbledon’s Executive Head Chef Gary Parsons, and the jams will be available to buy from our Taste Restaurant when it reopens later this month.
