The leading companies/contractors in the UK were exhibiting and looking for new recruits on the day were - Battersea Power Station Development Company, Bellway, Tideway, Mace, Sir Robert McAlpine, St William, Linden Homes, Galliford Try, Taylor Wimpey, United Living, Redrow Homes, Ardmore, JRL, Bennett, Northern Line Extension, New Covent Garden Market, Ballymore, and Multiplex.
For the Battersea Power Station Development Company, one of many local construction companies and leading players in the field of construction, they delivered a presentation on their amazing new construction training hub at Battersea Power Station, which opened earlier this month. The new centre developed in partnership with Wandsworth Council, the centre has been designed to tackle the skills' shortage and help local people get back into work.
Attendees were able to take part in Construction employability training sessions, notably in areas such as COTS, Scaffolding, CPCS Hoist Operator, CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, Traffic Marshal, Fire Marshal, and Harness, First Aid — skills that are most sort after to work in construction.
Not only was the event open to our construction students/experienced construction workers based in Lambeth and Wandsworth, but the event was an excellent opportunity for our students Electrical, Plumbing and Engineering courses were able to meet with the leading companies in the field of construction to discuss apprenticeships, and traineeships; in addition to network with their peers.
Overall, attendees came away with confidence knowing the number of local jobs opportunities available in the construction industry and hearing about possible developments in which their skills will be sought for.
