TV show takes plumbing student to Mumbai slums

Arsa web story imageAn aspiring plumber swapped South Thames College for the slums of Mumbai after being selected to take part in new BBC Three series, Slum Survivors.

17-year-old Arsa Edwards from Streatham travelled with two other young trainee plumbers from the UK to spend ten days in India, being guided and tested by extraordinary local trade people who share their vocation.

The Access to Building Services student who studies at the college's Wandsworth Campus, said: "In every situation, there would be something that would test your patience. I wanted to do a good job but sometimes I couldn't do things as quickly as I'd like so I'd get frustrated."

Arsa filmed web story imageWe'll have to tune in to the three-part series to see how well Arsa copes out of his comfort zone, but it's evident he's had the experience of a lifetime.

He added: "I can't give too much away but I can say I absolutely loved the experience. It's changed me by teaching me to be humble, to be happy with what I've got. The people I met didn't have expensive things but they were so happy, really cool and calm. Now I think 'why should I moan when I have more than them?' It's made me a better person to be honest."

You can watch Arsa in action in Slum Survivors on Monday 21 July, 9pm on BBC Three.
