Students on a range of creative industries courses supported the prestigious official launch of FilmMerton on Monday 26 November 2018 at the New Wimbledon Theatre. This event marked the official launch of FilmMerton, the brain child of John Merriman, Chair of Merton’s Culture Advisory Group, which won a Cultural Impact Award as part of the Mayor of London's London Borough of Culture initiative. This award provides funding to bring film to the whole of Merton in 2019, creating pop-up cinemas and short films curated by the community and guest curators.

Students on the HND Creative Media Production  produced the FilmMerton trailer, which premiered at the launch event to an audience of over 700. Students on the Level 3 Creative Media Production & Technology UAL Extended Diploma (Film) course provided invaluable technical support for the event as lighting and sound crew, runners, front of house and stage management. The event organisers were full of praise for the students and the level of professionalism and responsibility they demonstrated throughout the day.
