IMG 20150130 WA0049 resizedAirline crew at Heathrow Airport were treated to a pamper session and masterclass on creating quick and chic hair and make-up styles from our Level 2 hair and beauty students.

The group spent three days at the UK’s busiest airport with airline staff on hair and make-up tips. It gave the students great experience working to a brief and passing on the skills they have learned on their course so far.

Student Ieva Buracaite said, “The staff said they found our visit really helpful as they learned quick ways to fix their hair, but styles that also looked really nice.

Kim is a cut above

 

Jyi Kim 24 HairdressingHairdressing student, Jyi Kim, has beat out competition from students across the country to secure her place as a finalist in the UK’s largest skills competition.

Held at the Skills Show in NEC Birmingham from 13 - 15 November, the WorldSkills UK competition will see over 500 students competing for medals in over 60 competitions including electrical installation, hairdressing, welding, web design and cooking.

web Connexions RoehamptonHairdressing students have been busy getting involved in local projects to boost their learning experiences and give something back to the community.

This month 11 students visited Connexions at the Base in Roehampton to offer staff free nail treatments and Roehampton Youth Club to practise hair skills including rollers, straightening, pin curls and special occasion hair styles on the centre's clients. The activities give learners the opportunity to gain real-world experience, develop their confidence and gain a better understanding of the relevance of their course to working life.

Held at the Skills Show in NEC Birmingham from 14 - 16 November, the WorldSkills UK competition will see over 500 students competing for medals in over 60 competitions including electrical installation, hairdressing, welding, web design and cooking.

After triumphing in the regional heats, two college bands and two media make-up students will be putting their skills to the test against competitors from around the country in the media make-up and pop music categories.

Hair and media make-up student Shahana models neon animal print body artFive hair and media make-up students had the chance to showcase their artistic skills at an exclusive preview event of the Skills Show in London.

Held at the Music Room in Mayfair, the event aimed to give journalists and sponsors a taste of what's to come at the main Skills Show event at the NEC Birmingham in November. As well as showcasing body art skills they'd learnt in the classroom on one another, the enthusiastic students also encouraged visitors to have a go at media make-up themselves, giving journalists hints and tips on brush strokes, colour blending and how to steady the hand.
