What is the biggest sporting event of summer 2021? You could be forgiven for saying the European Football Championship, Wimbledon’s return or indeed the Tokyo Olympics. You would, however, be wrong! The biggest sporting event has already been and gone. I am of course referring to the Kingston College Inter Form Sports Tournament held in the Sports Hall. Here is a rundown of each competition:

Day 1: Basketball – The four forms competing were Hall, Farah, Weir and Ennis-Hill. Farah and Weir dominated both Hall and Ennis-Hill in their first two games, which brought about a heated final for top spot while Hall fell to Ennis Hill 7-4 in the third place decider. The Final was a well fought battle that saw only a one-point difference, Farah on 9 points were able to clinch victory over Weir who could only amass 8. MVP of the day goes to Jaden Ramen from Form group Farah.

Day 2: Dodgeball – The three forms of Hall, Farah and Weir competed in the second of four events. This time Weir were out for revenge for their second place in basketball and swept the competition away going undefeated on the day including their performance in dismantling the staff team in a friendly exhibition match. Hall managed to nick a win off Farah to secure second place in the competition. The MVP goes to Seamus Byrne from Hall for an all-round solid performance and pulling off a 1v5 comeback win.

Day 3: Badminton – Day 3 saw many participants across forms Farah, Weir and Ennis-Hill and Pavey take part in doubles. Two teams asserted dominance right off the bat, with a Farah-Pavey hybrid team as well as an Ennis-Hill team winning all 5 of their matches before facing each other for the decider. A great effort from Ennis-Hill saw them come out on top making them the third unique winner of a competition. 3rd place also went to Form group Farah and 4th place went to Ennis-Hill with Weir bringing up the rear, filling out the rest of the leaderboard. The MVP of the day goes to Farah’s Nathan Lumely for playing a huge  part in his second place doubles performance.

Day 4: Volleyball – Our final day had 1st and 2nd place overall Farah and Weir as well as Federer competing with everything left to play for. Weir made strong work dispatching Farah in game 1 before Federer also beat Farah in game 2. With Farah’s title hopes in contention, Weir needed a big result against Federer to put them in prime position to take 1st overall. Federer came out on top and went on to win their other two games against the same teams again. This made Federer our 4th unique winner and displays the true element of competition that ran through our whole event. In the reverse fixture of Farah versus Weir, Farah managed to overcome Weir by a greater margin than Weir won the first fixture by. This means the Volleyball standings were Federer 1st, Farah 2nd and Weir 3rd. MVP of the day went to Federer’s laonee from Ennis-Hill: Jeffrey Beronilla.

The Final Podium is:

1st place: Farah

2nd place: Weir

3rd place: Ennis-Hill

Congratulations to everyone in Form group Farah and all those who won any individual competition and well done to everyone who took part. Thank you also to all the staff who encouraged the students to take part, officiated, helped with scoring and became cheerleaders for a couple of weeks. We can’t wait for the next academic year when we hope to run more competitions like this in future.
