It all began with a mouse and a dream…

Hairdressing students at Kingston College stepped into the world of Disney to celebrate 100 years of magic and wonder, the theme for this year’s competition. The students celebrated the iconic characters that have captured the hearts of people all over the world by transforming their models into characters from some of Disney’s most beloved and timeless classics - from Cinderella to Avatar to Captain Jack Sparrow.

The hairdressing salon was awash with creativity as the students calmly worked their magic, culminating in a catwalk show that looked straight from a fairytale, in front of esteemed judges and a live audience in the theatre - and student winners being celebrated.

Students are studying on one of our range of Hair courses: Level 2 Certificate for 16-18 year olds, Level Diploma for Adults and Level 3 Advanced Adults. They showed incredible inventiveness and imagination with their careful research, their detailed mood boards and their meticulous final looks. Some amazing characters were created and interestingly, most students chose their favourite characters from their childhood: Cruella Deville, Lion King, Tinkerbelle, Maleficent, Belle, Queen of Hearts, Peter Pan, Hook, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Aladdin, Jasmine, a half Belle/half Beast masterpiece, a whimsical Bambi, and a fabulous Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.

Not to be outdone, the tutors came dressed for the occasion: Minnie Mouse, Captain Jack Sparrow and a bee from Bee Movie as she was so busy all day!

The level of expertise and talent all round was remarkable. Thank you to the judges: Julie Watkins - Deputy Head of School and Amanda Morrison – Head of Hair & Beauty, our Technical Theatre students who supported – but most of all huge congratulations to all of our Hairdressing students who participated, your efforts were spectacular!
