In November 2022 South Thames College partnered with Mace Group and Wandsworth Work Match to contribute to the refurbishment of the Rose Community Centre in Battersea. As part of the project, 9 of the College’s Construction Multi-Skills learners spent a week at the Centre, carrying out painting & decorating works of most of the rooms, and supporting with the regeneration of the outside garden. The learners were mentored & supervised by tradespeople from Mace Group.

The project provided the learners with top-class experience of working in a commercial renovation setting, and all thrived in the daily activities they completed.

John Llamas, Social Value Manager at Mace Group, was highly impressed with the learner’s work ethic, and willingness to take on new tasks, and commented: “We are happy to have had a group of students from South Thames College join us for the week as we have been working to give a fresh look to the ROSE Community Centre in Battersea. We hope that it has been a useful insight into elements of the industry and the students have all engaged well, got ‘stuck in’ and been exposed to a range of trades. We very much hope that we are able to open a door into the industry, with the help of our supply chain and contacts, and start some of them on their next stage of their career journey within the sector.”

A big thank you to Mace Group and Wandsworth Work Match for all of their continued support.
