Carshalton College’s shop, Essentials, is now open!
Our new College shop was officially opened on Friday 29 November by our Group Principal, Peter Mayhew Smith, helped by several of our staff and students!
The shop is situated in the main College thoroughfare and is run by our Foundation Learning Students. These learners will be peer mentored by our cross college students along with Learning Support workers.
Running a shop will give the students an opportunity to learn new skills that can then be transferred into the world of work. You can find an assortment of goodies for sale such as; stationery, confectionery, greeting cards, arts and crafts, subject specialism materials and much more!
Peter was first taken on a tour of the workshop where much of the goods on sale are created and constructed by the students. A presentation was then given by the Employability and Social Enterprise students on future plans for the shop including installing a card reader and selling their craft at Barnardo’s charity shop, Rosehill.
