Triple Distinction* BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science student, Eoin Yates, has accepted a place to study a BSc (Hons) Football Studies at Solent University in September. Below Eoin explains why he chose a BTEC and shares his experiences of studying at Kingston College:

“I chose a BTEC as I was only really interested in taking one subject, this being Sport & Exercise Sciences, and really couldn’t think of any other subjects that I would’ve taken had I gone to Sixth Form. I chose Kingston College as they seemed the most welcoming and gave me the most information at the open days and events that I decided to go to. The journey is long for me, but I looked past that when choosing my college.

“I am going to be studying Football Studies BSc (Hons) at Solent University, as football is my main sport and the sport I have loved my whole life so wanted to really take it further into a career, hopefully becoming a Stats and Data Analyst at a professional football club someday.

“The favourite part of my course is the fact that it is all coursework, as I really struggle when it comes to exams, with the pressure and anxieties that come with them, so coursework really takes pressure off my shoulders as I have enough time to complete it.

“College life is mostly as I had expected as it’s a challenge and a bit stressful at times, but once you get on top of everything like work and attendance then it becomes a lot smoother and I have met some great people along the way, so no real surprises have come from my time at Kingston.

“Advice for people applying for my course is to make sure you are ready to work hard in everything you do, as the challenge may seem to overcome you at times. Always make sure you stay on top of any deadlines and amendments so that the process of handing in coursework is smoother and you don’t have any outstanding work to stress over handing in.

“In 2019, there was an inter-form volleyball tournament that was held by the Sports department which was incredibly fun and was also a good opportunity to discover a new sport and enjoy something other than football.

“All of my lecturers are amazing but Jade (Douthwaite) has helped me the most in my time at Kingston, especially in the second year as my tutor. She was also making sure our whole class was happy and okay mentally, offering help if we needed it, as well making jokes, and lifting the mood when times were rough throughout the pandemic.”

Triple Distinction* is the equivalent of 3 A*s at A Level.
