“Carshalton College was recommended to me by my school as I wanted to do a more practical course which our 6th Form did not offer.  College seemed like a good option for me as it was more of an adult environment and I was warned that I would have to work more independently, which I liked the sound of.  It felt more realistic and closer to a working environment you would expect in the real world.

My first impression was I felt more like a grown up not having to wear a uniform and with security staff around the college it was safe and secure.  I enrolled on Level 2 Motor Vehicle as I had a real interest in cars and liked learning how cars operate and how to fix them.  I then moved onto Public Services Level 2 as I decided I would like to work in the police force eventually and this course would be a good stepping-stone to do that.

I am now on the Level 3 Public Services course and really enjoy learning about the law, British Values, equality and diversity.  I particularly enjoy whenever we have speakers from the various armed forces, which I find really inspirational and fascinating to learn about the outside world in these areas.  It makes me feel there are so many opportunities out there that are open to me.

My tutors are strict but provide a good level of support and teach us how to pay attention, listen to instructions and to progress. They have provided the tools for me to do my assignments well.  The emphasis is on me to do the work and you are rewarded with good marks and acknowledgment when you do.  It makes you want to do the best that you can.

I plan to apply to University at the end of my course.  If you want respect, you need to show respect to others and never judge a book by its cover!  I would recommend to anyone not sure about what they want to do to choose something that interests them and to take advantage of all the free education you can before age 19".

John, his tutor said: “Rehaad has really shown an effort since he started on the Level 2 programme.  The quality of his assignments has really improved, he has really matured and become a lot fitter.”
