On 20 September, Business students at Kingston College received a visit from Simon Roberts, CEO of Sainsbury’s. He gave a talk on the structure of the business and how this contributes to its success in a very competitive market. The talk provided students with an invaluable insight into the complexities of running a FTSE 100 company, which will help them in all the units they undertake this year. Simon explained the company’s aims, some of the internal and external challenges it faces, and what it’s doing to overcome these challenges. This model is exactly what the exam board are looking for students to recreate in their exams in January and in their coursework assignments.

Simon then gave up his time to answer questions on a range of subjects, including the benefits of working in a corporate environment, Sainsbury’s overseas expansion plans, recruitment and retention, and his own career.

Our thanks go to all those who helped make the event a success, and to Simon for giving up his valuable time.
