South Thames College Group operate a Digital Web filtering system (FortiGate NGF) which blocks and flags anyone who tries to access malicious, hacked, or inappropriate websites whilst using their college account. There is an automatic update twice a day with new listings, and forms part of our first line defence against web based attacks which is the primary vector for initiating attacks, such as downloads of malware, spyware, or risky content.

The system will also alert us to inappropriate narrative or causes for concern which are typed into the WEB browser.  As a result the Group operates real time alerts with an associated threat level dependant on the content of the narrative. These alerts are sent to the relevant Safeguarding Teams in the college to investigate further. In addition weekly summary reports are also generated of these events and sent to the relevant Safeguarding Teams.

In addition to support these arrangements we work with our students to ensure that they are aware of any on-line risks and know how to stay safe on-line through our planned tutorial sessions.
