McLaren Construction, one of the leading construction companies in the UK, has partnered with South Thames College to give our Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing learners a unique opportunity to visit their construction site in Nine Elms.

The learners were given a brief Health & Safety induction on the current building project, which is the construction of a new office building and included a presentation on the company's history, values and culture. This gave the learners a better understanding of the company and the various career opportunities available.

Full personal protective equipment (PPE) was provided to the learners, before being taken on a tour of the site.

The visit was designed to give the learners a hands-on experience of what it's like to work on a live construction site and gain an insight into the construction industry. The learners had the chance to see first-hand the various stages of the plumbing processes in a construction site such as:

  • The installation of plumbing pipework for hot and cold-water supply to the building.
  • The installation of drainage and sewage systems.
  • The fitting of bathroom and kitchen fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and showers.
  • The installation of heating and cooling systems for the building.

The partnership between McLaren Construction and South Thames College demonstrates the company's commitment to promoting careers in the construction industry and providing opportunities for students to gain practical experience. The visit was a fantastic learning experience for the learners and has informed them of the different career paths available to them.

Overall, the partnership between McLaren Construction and South Thames College is an excellent example of how the construction industry can work with education providers to promote careers in the industry and inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
